Tips for the Computer Programmer Interview

2009Before Interview
- An interview is an informal chat to determine whether you are fit for the organization.
- Verbal contents of the interview are forgotten with in 30 minutes of your interview. What remains is the overall impression.
- Dress appropriately. Be businesslike.
- Do your homework in your home.
- Search about the organization’s general operations.
- Practice in front of a mirror or an audience of friends/colleagues.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes early.
In Interview
- Greet the employer with a handshake.
- Make frequent eye contact.
- Smile, be polite, and try to relax.
- Listen carefully to the questions asked. Ask the interviewer to restate a question if you are confused.
- You may be asked this type of questions.
a) How could you determine if a linked list contains a cycle in it, and, at what node the cycle starts?
b) How would you reverse a doubly-linked list?
c) How do I delete trailing whitespaces from each line?
- Ask the following questions from the employer when he has completed his interview.
a) Who would supervise me?
b) When are you going to make a hiring decision?
c) What are the opportunities for advancement?
d) Is there a dress code?
At the End of Interview
- At the end, thank the interviewers for their time.
