Officers and guards play an imperative role in providing public safety, transportation protection, border patrol and ensuring that property is safe from intruders. Obtaining a job in security usually requires a clean background check and nailing the interview. Candidates need to give more attention on the preparation of interview. Candidate should need to practice few things like a firm hand shake, maintain a good eye contact because security employees must adopt these techniques to leave a good first impression during job interview. Here are some useful guidelines for those candidates who are going to interview for security positions:

Conduct Research

Conduct research on company you seek to join. You can get in touch with someone who works in security division of business and ask for a brief overview of their jobs. Accustom yourself with recent developments of company and inject this information in your answers. For instance, if you are interviewing for insurance company, ask how rise of insurance frauds affects company’s security division, if at all.

Dignity and Behavior

Hiring managers want employees who can satisfactorily respond under stress and can identify potential security threats. You should convey your ability by stressing on how well you can react under pressure. You can provide your responses under a “problem reaction solution” framework. You can express problems like how you react and solutions as a result of your efforts. You will write down three such instances and recite them in front of mirror before interview with the help of your past experience. Commit these stories to memory so you can convey these stories to hiring manager without hesitating or stammering.

You should think about situation in advance where you handled a high stress situation and how your efforts provide better results to company. Moreover explain a circumstance under which you noticed something out of ordinary situation and tell your way to investigate problems. Mention your communication skills during interview and how you relayed information in clear-headed, concise manner to your superiors.

Confidentiality

Security employees are often privy of confidential information. You should express your reliability by mentioning any instances of getting security clearance from your previous organization. You can also mention any circumstances under which you were entrusted with confidential information. You will state that you only share confidential information with people privy to such knowledge as sketched out by guidelines. You must explain that you can go to manager if you find any person’s clearance in doubt.

Scheduling and Flexibility

You must state your willingness to work for long hours, holidays and overtime to increase your chances of employment. Several firms have security officers working in the middle of night, Sunday evenings, Christmas Eve and other off-hours. Some shifts are allocated on the basis of bid system and seniority, so expect working off-hours during first few years.
