Duties of Warehouse Worker
Warehouse workers work out of public view to keep retail stores, manufacturers and distributors update and running. These workers typically work during whole day and night completing various tasks that keep the flow of product and services. Warehouse workers use different equipments and small machinery that help them to complete there job but they must have knowledge that how to use these machineries as well as have perfect knowledge about company’s product or services. Therefore warehouse worker need a high school diploma and receive online job training once they hired.
Freighting and Receiving
Warehouse workers often work on the embankment of warehouse receiving goods as they arrive on trucks from other companies or warehouses. This process involves moving material with forklifts, by hand and as a team to ensure that they are putting in proper place. Freighters and receivers should work efficiently and make other’s work efficient by placing items in correct inventory location and by documenting details of all existing inventory. It is the responsibility of freighting staff that when the inventory needs to be freight out they should properly check package with a label that has correct shipping information then they will load the boxes into a truck to be delivered.
Equipment Operation
A forklift is a widely used equipment to move heavy items. The warehouse workers commonly use forklift, small tractors and trucks to move material from one warehouse to another warehouse. The warehouse worker should receive on the job training for proper and safe use of equipment. Warehouse workers are responsible for transport of goods from one location to another, unload goods into warehouses, deliver items to customers and set up remaining items displayed in a store. They perform all these activities with the help of different tools and they must have proper training to use these tools according to safety procedures and guidelines. Safety rules and guidelines are very important for warehouse workers while using equipments because due to unsafe use someone can lose his limb or life.
Repair and Maintenance
Various companies have separate warehouse worker to maintain and repair equipment used to move different materials from in and out of warehouse. They must have provided with on sight training along with necessary knowledge and skills to keep equipment in good working order. For this purpose employer can send them for classes at technical or vocational schools to gain necessary knowledge at the organization’s expense. Maintenance is an integral part while using machinery and for safe use of equipments the equipments should checked on daily basis. This can help warehouse workers to ensure that everything is in good shape.
